The Process of Process Is Process

“What if that negative story you have been telling yourself about yourself your whole life simply isn’t true?”

Rich Roll

Julie and I are back with yet another installment of Ask Me Anything, a twist on my typical long-form interview format where Julie and I engage you — the listener — by addressing the topics and questions you want discussed.

This week’s AMA explores:

  • the employment of passion
  • engaging in process over results
  • reconciling spiritual detachment with the law of attraction
  • releasing old ideas & changing your story; and
  • self-acceptance: embracing dark and light

Special thanks to Steven Simpson and Jeff Warrington for today’s questions, as well as everyone who submitted inquiries — keep ’em coming!

The show concludes with My Man, written and performed by Julie — aka  SriMati— accompanied by our sons Tyler & Trapper Piatt.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the conversation.

I loved your latest AMA. As always 🙂 I also heard Julie on the Ultimate Health podcast the other day. I loved that one too. I guess I’m just Julies biggest stalker 😉

Anyway, at the end of the Ultimate Health podcast Julie got the question about her greatest fear. And she answered that she had none. On your AMA today she also said: stay out of fear. I would love if you can talk more about how to stay out of fear on your next AMA.

Keep up the excellent work you guys and I am so happy to hear that more people are downloading Julies meditation program. It rocks! 🙂

  • I’m gonna listen to this one tonight. Keep it up!

  • Sue Miller says:

Wow, was this ever exactly what I needed today. Thank you. Completely moved at your deep sharing too, Rich. Julie, the spiritual guidance is such a gift. Thank you.

As a long time listener and fan of your podcast, I’d like to say that I really don’t like the ‘Ask Me Anything’ episodes. I feel they’re cop out, fillers for when you haven’t got a proper interview lined up.

  • KP says:

Please share the name of the farming blog that Julie mentioned. TY!

  • Ann says:

Wow Julie, what a beautiful song. Thank you for sharing it.

Also, I’ve been really liking the Ask Me Anything series more and more. You both have so much wisdom from your respective life-work practices, and have pretty solid shit-detectors. Your summaries and suggestions come across as being thoughtful, insightful, and applicable.

Another awesome AMA, really enjoyed the discussion of embracing dark/light aspects of self. In future AMA episodes, I’d love to hear you expand on some of the things you started to touch on such as the power of intention, visualization, etc.

One note on the law of attraction segment. I am by no means a law of attraction expert (I’ve just dabbled over the years) and I haven’t read ‘The Secret’ or watched the movie, but I don’t think that law of attraction as I understand it is all about control. I agree with Julie that the idea of focusing on abundance and money and one day waking up with everything you’ve ever dreamed of is absurd, but some aspects of law of attraction are just concerned with focusing on your energy and vibration in the present moment. By focusing on things like joy, ease and gratitude in this moment instead of fear, worry and doubt, we can continually refocus and shift our vibration and thereby attract things into our life that are more in alignment with our dominant good feeling intentions and emotions. You can also attract negative circumstances if you constantly live in fear and doubt. I don’t think it’s about clinging to a vision and pulling it towards you, because that type of incessant control actually adds more tension/resistance and would in fact block the very things that you are hoping to attract. Julie went on to discuss not living in fear right afterwards, which is also a key from the law of attraction standpoint, because fear is a blocker (or framed in another way, fear/anxiety are the opposite of faith/surrender). Again, I am not an expert on anything spiritual, but I have explored some different avenues and I think there are stronger parallels to things that you guys talk about than was portrayed even if semantically referring to something as law of attraction just sounds like a gimmicky marketing ploy. Or maybe ‘The Secret’ has a different perspective on these things than I am aware of.

If you were a long-time listener then you would know the “proper interview” is available on Sunday/Monday and they recently added a second episode each week which usually arrives in AMA format, so I don’t see how this is a cop out. On the contrary, it’s actually a bonus and probably requires a lot of additional effort. Stop listening to them if you don’t like them.

I respectfully disagree with Tom C., I LOVE the ask me anything episodes, esp. because I love Julie’s thoughtful and thought provoking insights and I thought this one was really great, thanks to you both!

  • Natasharma says:

Such a beautiful podcast, I played it twice. I really enjoy listening to all of the podcasts, but there’s something particularly special about hearing the two of you together, beautiful dynamic and beautiful messages. Thankyou thankyou thankyou 🙂

  • Lana Burns says:

Beautiful episode, the vibe of this show is getting better and better.

  • Tommy F says:

Just love the AMA’s with Julie! For me, these have become the highlight of the RRP. Your spiritual evolution is beyond inspirational and sharing your unfolding journey with us listeners has helped to sustain the growth of my own. Along with the Process idea.. I believe we Practice to Practice.. only to get better at Practice. We aren’t here to actually achieve anything.. only to keep the vibration humming and the prana flowing. For this, we need to breathe… That’s All 🙂

Love love love the AMAs! They have been immensely beneficial to me! Keep up the beautiful work Rich and Julie! And Julie, I think a cake book is a great idea! I have two young children and would love to share this tradition with my family <3

  • Jessica says:

Hi again! I posted a comment earlier and I would like to change my question. You did explain how to stay out of external fear. I’ve been practicing that for many years myself. But what to do with the internal fear? I would love to hear you expand around that.

    Thank you for sharing <3

  • Alisha Brunton says:

My favourite AMA yet! So much wisdom relevant to me right now, I’m going to have to play it again. Thank you.

  • Everett says:

“I believe we Practice to Practice.. only to get better at Practice. We aren’t here to actually achieve anything.. only to keep the vibration humming and the prana flowing.”

So well said, Tommy, so well said. Thank you, brother. It is that sort of wisdom I need to hold at bay my anxiety of mediocrity and of what on earth to focus my limited time and energy on.

Great AMA episode, Rich and Julie. These always stop me in my tracks and prod me into reexamining my stubbornly erected fragile beliefs.

  • SK says:

I’m so excited about Julie’s cake book! As the mom of a three-year-old, I am looking for healthy and fun ways to include her in our family celebrations. I also look forward to reading Julie’s personal story, and more info on her homeschool/parenting philosophy in the future. These Ask Me Anything episodes are some of my favorites.
