Kona Training Camp :: Monday Nov. 9th

Today Jason Lester and I headed out on a 3hr ride up the Queen K from Keahou to Waikoloa Village and back. The focus of the ride as 2 hard 45 minute intervals. The first one was a slammer heading north with some nice tailwinds, no winds and then some cross winds. I was blazing, hitting long stretches at 29-30mph and settling at a 25.01 mph avg for the full 45 minutes. This is BY FAR the fastest I have ever ridden a bike for 45 minutes straight. It felt amazing — like being on the Nevada Salt Flats. Wide roads, smooth pavement and favorable winds. of course, I didn’t want to believe that tailwinds had anything to do with it. A brief hydration break at Waikoloa Village, then back at it. On the secobnd interval heading back to Kona, the headwinds were fierce! I had to just bury the head and power it through. But I still managed an 18mph+ avg pace which I am happy with considering how hard those winds were blowing…..Tonight Jason and I are going to try to tape a nutrition video at Kona Natural Food Market – stay tuned!
